Oyiga Michael, a former student of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, has shared a story about how he unexpectedly staged a protest after the generator man failed to switch on the generator during his undergraduate enrollment.
Michael unveiled the story on his Twitter handle on September 28, 2023.
In his words:
During my first year , I used to be very popular in Eni Njoku Hostel . We normally don’t have light during the day but Once it’s 7pm , generator comes on till like 10pm . But on this particular day , generator man didn’t switch on the Gen and 7 don knack”..
I came out of my room with stainless plate and started hitting it on the rail shouting ” Papa on that Gen ” like cruise .
I have a really loud voice so it was echoing from our hostel to the next hostel . Little by little .. Room by room .. series by series , numbers dey add.
Before I close my eyes open my eyes , the numbers don increase . E don become Mini Protest .
We had like both hostels coming together waiting for me to lead them as they were all screaming ” Papa On that Gen ” ..
Something wey I just start as cruise don Dey turn serious ..
I Dey look for way to cut out but no space . This ones dem Dey increase and increase as them Dey form unit inside the protest . some Dey organize chow , some Dey organize movement and some don Dey bring tyre to start bon fire for center of hostel
And me I still Dey look say Wetin Dey go on for here na like this dem go take expel me ? I was in first year then so I was scared because What if person go tell my elder sister say I Dey make noise for hostel ? Or my elder brother ? As both of them Dey the same school too .
Long story short . Them this one push me to that Generator house and the man in charge of the Generator house ran away and the engineering boys went inside and switch on the Generator by themselves . In victory , we started going back . the boys carry me kokoriko.
Later that night , the news spread , UNN security begin come room by room Dey find everybody wey protest
As I Dey run Commot Hostel , I jam the security men for just outside my room . Security come hold me say Wetin be my name , I say Micheal .
Nobody really know me as Micheal for school other than Oyiga.
Them say are you Oyiga , I say No. my name is Micheal
Security say them get information say na me organize protest and say I Dey follow them go state CID .
I first Dey drag until them hold me firm . I begin burst cry.
Immediately they started dragging me like from my room down to the hostel center , boys started coming out asking
“Oga Wetin him do ” ( Big shout out to Mangala ) them point the guy gun e no run . E stand there dey ask Wetin I do .
As other boys see am all of them start come out
As Security wan do gra gra . Boys don plenty . All the Odowgu them , Them Foster for 400 series . Illegal roommates them . Paschal for 100 series , fellowship guys and Even the blind guys for 100 series . All of them surround security Dey ask Wetin i do ??
Security say them get info say na me stage protest
Boys say no be me .
Say na Alvan boy stage am .
Say I Dey hostel Dey play ball since .
I still Dey cry like fool
emotions just
Dey full my body Say why these people love me and Shey na today my life go end for This sch ?
Hall Governor too rush come down .

Security come free me .
Come go back .
